Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Simpsonville, SC
A ductless mini-split heats and cools a room without any ductwork. We install them in bonus rooms, garages, additions, and older homes across Simpsonville and the Upstate, sized for the space and placed where the air actually reaches you.
Mini-Split Installs by Our Own Crew
Every mini-split we put in is installed by our own technicians. We don't hand the job to subcontractors, and nobody on our crew earns a commission for selling you more equipment than the room needs. The recommendation stays about your house.
We install Samsung mini-splits supplied through Lennox. We're EPA 608 Universal certified for the refrigerant work a mini-split requires, and we're licensed, bonded, and insured on every job. We check your electrical panel during the estimate so nothing catches you off guard on install day, and we pull permits wherever the local jurisdiction requires them.
Estimates are free. If you'd rather spread out the cost, financing is available through Wisetack, subject to approval.

When a Mini-Split Makes Sense
A mini-split has two main parts. An outdoor unit sits outside, and an indoor unit sits in the room it serves. A line set, the copper refrigerant lines and wiring that connect the two, runs through a small opening in the wall, so there's no ductwork to build. The system runs as a heat pump, so the same equipment cools in summer and heats in winter. With Upstate summers sitting in the 90s and winter nights dropping near freezing, that two-season job fits the way homes here are used.
A mini-split can also work alongside your central system. The main system keeps handling the house, and the mini-split takes care of the one space it never reached well. If your home already has good ductwork throughout and you need a whole-house system, a ducted heat pump installation may be the better fit, and we can walk you through both.
- A bonus room or room over the garage that's always hotter than the rest of the house
- A garage or workshop you want to use year-round
- An addition or sunroom where running new ducts would be hard
- An older home that was built without ductwork
- One room that never matches the thermostat in the hallway
- Window units you're ready to get rid of
Choosing Where the Units Go
Where the equipment sits has a lot to do with how comfortable the room feels.
Inside, the indoor unit needs a spot where its air can spread across the room. Open areas are easier to cover than rooms broken up by walls and doorways. Furniture, curtains, and tall shelving in front of the unit block airflow. Cool air sinks and warm air rises, so placement also decides which part of the room feels the difference first.
The line set needs a route from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. Running it through a closet, attic, or crawlspace can keep it out of sight and cut down on wall repair. We look at those options before anything gets drilled.
Outside, the outdoor unit needs open air around it and room to be serviced. It shouldn't sit tight against shrubs or a fence. It also shouldn't sit right under a roof edge where rain pours off, or next to a door or walkway. In heating mode the unit drains water as it defrosts, and in a cold snap that water can freeze where people walk.
We'll go over the placement with you before install day so you know exactly where everything will go and why.

Sizing a Mini-Split for Your Space
A mini-split should be sized from a load calculation, not a guess based on square footage. We measure the space on site and look at what actually drives heat into it:
Getting the size right matters both ways. A unit that's too big cools the air quickly and shuts off before it pulls much moisture out, which can leave a room cool but clammy in a humid Upstate summer. A unit that's too small runs nonstop on the hottest afternoons and coldest mornings and still can't keep up.
- How big the room is and how high the ceiling goes
- How many windows it has and which way they face
- How well the walls and ceiling are insulated
- How the room gets used, such as a garage door that opens often or a home office full of electronics
Mini-Split Kits vs. Professional Installation
You've probably seen boxed mini-split kits at home stores, and some come with pre-charged lines. They can make the job look simple. The parts that decide how well a mini-split works aren't in the box, though.
A unit that sits out of level or drains poorly can start leaking water indoors. A slow refrigerant leak at a connection shows up later as a system that can't keep up. Problems like these can trace back to how the system went in.
With a professional install, those details are handled from the start. We size the system for the room, check the electrical, set the drain, clear air and moisture out of the lines, check the refrigerant charge, and test heating and cooling before we leave.
- The right size for the room, based on a real load calculation
- An indoor unit mounted level, with a drain line that slopes the right way so water doesn't back up into the room
- Proper electrical service for the outdoor unit
- Refrigerant connections that stay sealed for years, not just on day one
What Affects Mini-Split Installation Cost
The cost of a mini-split depends on your house and the space you want to cover. The main things that move the price are:
Your estimate is free, and we'll go over what's included before any work starts. Financing is available through Wisetack, subject to approval.
- System size — a larger space needs more capacity
- The amount of space you want covered — one room is a different job than several
- Distance between units — a longer line set route takes more material and labor
- Your walls and access — brick, finished basements, and tight attics can change how the line set gets run
- Electrical work — some homes have panel space ready, and some need more work to support a new system
- Where the outdoor unit goes — the surface it sits on and how easy the spot is to reach both play a part
How a Mini-Split Installation Works
Already have a ductless system that's acting up? We also handle ductless mini-split repair.
- 1Visit and measure. We look at the room, measure it, and check your electrical panel.
- 2Plan the placement. We pick the spot for the indoor unit, the line set route, and the outdoor unit location, and go over it with you.
- 3Install the system. We mount the units, run the line set and drain, and connect power. Shoe covers and drop cloths protect your floors while we work.
- 4Start up and test. We pull the air and moisture out of the lines with a vacuum pump, check the refrigerant charge, and test the system in both cooling and heating.
- 5Show you how it works. We go over the remote and settings, then clean up before we leave.

I am extremely satisfied with the work completed by Rhino HVAC. Parker and Ronnie are very knowledgeable in the field, and they took the time to answer all of my questions. Outstandingly job, extremely thorough, and very friendly as well. My wife and I highly recommend them.
I called at 7 am and they were here by 11 am. James was so incredibly thorough and great about explaining every step to me. He wanted to make sure everything was working properly before he left and went above and beyond to make sure I didn’t have the same problem again. I highly recommend!
Very through on every service visit. Contact you right away when issues arise.
AC wasn’t cooling and I also found multiple gallons of water just sitting inside one of my AC ducts. I went on facebook and noticed multiple people referring Rhino HVAC, so I decided to give them a call. They were able to come out the next day, evacuate the water, diagnose, and repair my AC system. Connor and James were fantastic and I can’t recommend them enough!
James and Connor did a phenomenal job today. Very insightful and did great work. Would highly recommend there services to anyone.
James was awesome. HIGHLY recommend rhino!
Jame is a wonderful person, he helped me save a lot of money by identifying the problem with my AC and fixing it-even though another company had told me I needed to replace the unit entirely, which would have been very expensive.
Very professional and knowledgeable team.
James, Connor, and Ronnie have all been great to work with! They are very responsive, extremely thorough, and take the time to answer any questions. James and Connor provided me with in-depth simple suggestions on dealing with indoor humidity levels. They even completed our annual maintenance in the pouring rain. Highly recommend and will continue to be customers for annual maintenance.
James did a great job. He was very thorough in describing the problem and got it fixed ASAP. I really appreciate Rhino getting to our airbnb super fast.

I called them after I felt like another company was being dishonest with me, and I’m so glad I did. They were professional, straightforward, and made the whole experience stress-free. I highly recommend Rhino HVAC and I plan to use them in the future!
Rhino HVAC came highly recommended from lots of our neighbors. Very responsive, came out quickly and diagnosed and corrected the issue within 30 minutes. Definitely recommend 100%!
Our house HVAC system not been serviced in too long of time I'm embarrassed to say. Rhino HVAC was friendly, informative and prompt with sending a tech to our house for service. Our tech James went through the whole system thoroughly, patiently and was completely knowledgeable. And he did it with a sincere and friendly customer service attitude. He showed us a few mandatory points of how we can keep things in good condition in between services such as timing of replacing filters, keeping the condensers clear enough from our garden growth and more. He also pointed out the 100% need for a kill switch to our unit in the attic to prevent any flooding damage that would occur if our unit had a water issue-A small cost to prevent a major one! We have "found" our HVAC go to. I highly recommend Rhino HVAC.
Ronnie was great! Our A\C went out and he was here in 20 minutes. He found the issue right away and we are all cooling back down now! Highly recommend Rhino HVAC!
Outstanding service! James diagnosed the problem quickly and repairs were very reasonable. We signed up for a service contract and they did a full inspection and cleaning on the spot. I would recommend without hesitation.
I am so thankful for Ronnie and James! They came out quickly and figured out the source of the problem. They also provided education regarding yearly maintenance on the unit. First time home owner, I never would have known! They are truly the best and so kind! They will be my go to HVAC guys!!
Rhino hvac were so quick at scheduling the first inspection even tho I wasn’t an established customer, and helped find the problem and adjust my system even when multiple visits were needed. Thank you!
My mom needed her AC looked at and these guys were recommended on a local Facebook page. She called, they answered right away and were at her house same day to take a look! They were back the next day to get a new unit installed. They were prompt and courteous. They kept everything neat, tidy, and clean the whole time they were there. They explained everything through out the process and worked extremely hard to get her up and running. My mom had nothing but good things to say about them and will highly recommend. Key takeaways: Respectful, reliable, courteous, clean, great to work with. Thank you guys for taking care of my mom!
Ronnie gives the kind of service and honest answers you’d expect from an experienced HVAC guy. After nearly being hustled into buying a whole new HVAC by one of those “local” private equity companies, I contacted Ronnie. Ronnie was helpful and took the time to talk through everything. Very knowledgeable, friendly. He’s honest without having to tell you he’s an honest guy. Highly recommend.
We found Ronnie through reading some great reviews and are blown away by how hard working, thorough and knowledgeable he is! He came out and worked his butt off and did such a great job. It is so nice to finally find a trustworthy company for our home. We are so happy to have found him and signed up with his service right away after seeing what an amazing job he did.
Ronnie was on time and took care of the maintenance , and was able have both units ready for the summer . Thanks Buddy.... Have a great week
Based on over one hundred five star reviews, we decided to give Rhino HVAC a call. Ronnie arrived in less than thirty minutes and was able to quickly diagnose the issue. We have experienced ongoing problems with our HVAC for years and Rhino HVAC is the first company that was able to provide real solutions. Ronnie is incredibly knowledgeable. He was professional in articulating his findings and presenting options to resolve the issue. I highly recommend Rhino HVAC to anyone in the upstate that is experiencing issues with their AC. If you are looking for someone to get the job done, do it right, and all for a fair price, don’t think twice.
Called Ronnie up and came rt out to look at ac unit, had it fixed in no time.Highly recommend his service. Thanks again Ronnie!Mike Lee.
Very professional service came in see the issue fixed and hand me back with air within a few minutes! If anyone needs any ac this is the place to call!
Ronnie was great! Very professional and explained everything about the system so even we could understand it. Would recommend Rhino to anyone who needs services on their hvac systems. We will be using Rhino for our services from now on.
Rhino HVAC came highly recommended in a local FB group, by numerous members. When I first called no one answered, and I have anxiety so I just hung up without leaving a message and continued being stressed out…🤷♀️😵💫 I received a call back from Ronnie fifteen minutes later and as he was in the area, was at my house and diagnosing the issue within twenty minutes. I don’t think you can get a quicker response time than that! As a less than experienced homeowner with this kind of stuff, and a solo female, I felt very comfortable with Ronnie in my home, very respectful, cleanly and well presenting-no creepy vibes at all-which is a concern of mine from previous experiences. He was clear about delivering the information he gave me about what he was going to do initially, and after assessing, clearly communicated what the issue was and a clear quote to fix it. Ronnie continued to be on top of things ordering the part as soon as I gave the go ahead for the job, picking the part up as soon as it was available and on his way to my house as soon as he got it. I felt like a priority with the all consistent communication. After Ronnie fixed my AC(yay!!!)…he also took the time to go under my crawl space and let me know about a potential fire hazard with how my unit was apparently setup before I purchased the home, and gave me a reliable referral to a local electrician who could help with that. Ronnie really went the extra mile with great service and results and I will definitely use Rhino HVAC in the future should I need to. Thanks again, Ronnie for your time and effort!❄️🥶

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a mini-split heat and cool?
Yes. A ductless mini-split is a heat pump, so it cools in summer and heats in winter with the same equipment. Upstate winters are mild enough that a mini-split can handle most of the heating season for the space it serves.
Do I need ductwork for a mini-split?
No. A mini-split sends refrigerant through a small line set to an indoor unit in the room. That's what makes it a good choice for additions, garages, and older homes without ducts.
Can a mini-split go in a garage?
Yes, a garage is a good fit for a mini-split. Insulation and how often the big door opens make a real difference, so we factor both into the sizing.
What brand of mini-split do you install?
We install Samsung mini-splits supplied through Lennox.
Do I need a permit to install a mini-split?
Many local jurisdictions require one for new heating and cooling equipment. We pull permits wherever they're required, so you don't have to handle it yourself.
Can I finance a mini-split installation?
Yes. Financing is available through Wisetack, subject to approval, and we'll explain the options when we go over your estimate.
